Explore the Beautiful Scottish Islands with In2Scotland.com

12/7/2025

Picture
Scotland's islands offer a diverse and breathtaking escape, from dramatic, rugged landscapes to serene, white-sand beaches. Whether you are an avid hiker, a history enthusiast, or a whisky connoisseur, there is an island waiting for you.
Here are some of the most beautiful islands to inspire your next adventure:
 * Isle of Skye: Often called the most famous and spectacular of the Scottish islands, Skye is a land of dramatic scenery. You can explore the jagged ridges of the Cuillin Mountains, the iconic rock formation of the Old Man of Storr, and the mystical landscape of the Quiraing.
 * Lewis and Harris: These two parts of one large island offer a blend of history and stunning natural beauty. Lewis is rich in ancient sites and Gaelic culture, while Harris is famous for its "tropical-looking" beaches, such as Luskentyre.
 * Orkney: Located off the northern coast, the Orkney Islands have a distinct feel, with more of a Norwegian influence than a Scottish one. They are home to some of northern Europe's finest prehistoric sites and the historic harbor of Scapa Flow.
 * Isle of Islay: Known as "Scotland's whisky island," Islay is a must-visit for anyone who enjoys a good dram. It is home to numerous distilleries and offers beautiful beaches and dramatic cliffs.
 * Isle of Arran: Often referred to as "Scotland in Miniature," Arran packs a wide variety of landscapes into a small area, making it a perfect destination for those who want to experience a little bit of everything.
 * Isle of Iona: This small, serene island is a significant historical site, considered the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland. It is a place for quiet reflection and a peaceful escape.

This Gallery of photos is just a small selection of the hundreds we took, it was such great weather and a beautiful trip we couldn't stop taking photos!
Alright, buckle up and get ready to hear about the most bonnie road trip adventure In2Scotland.com has ever crafted. Yours truly took this 8-day whirlwind, and let me tell you, it was pure magic. Forget those dusty brochures; this is the real deal, straight from someone who's been there, done that, and bought the (very stylish) In2Scotland.com t-shirt. Get ready to book, because you'll be itching to experience this for yourself!

Day 1: Loch Lomond - Balmaha's Beauty and Bonnie Banks!
Right, day one, and we kicked things off in style at the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Balmaha was our first stop, a charming little village that just oozes Scottish charm. The air was crisp, the loch was shimmering like a giant sapphire, and honestly, the views just stole my breath away.
We took a wee stroll along the West Highland Way, which passes right through Balmaha, and soaked in the tranquility. For any of you feeling a bit more adventurous, a climb up Conic Hill is an absolute must! Trust me, the panoramic views from the top overlooking the islands are worth every single step.
Lunch was a delightful affair at a cozy little pub right on the waterfront. Think hearty Scottish fare – I went for the Cullen skink (smoked haddock soup), and it was heaven in a bowl! Afterwards, we hopped on a wee boat trip for a different perspective of the loch. Gliding across the water, surrounded by those majestic hills, was just… bliss.
In2Scotland.com Insider Tip: Keep an eye out for the local ice cream shop in Balmaha – their tablet flavour is dangerously addictive! This is just a taster of the incredible experiences In2Scotland.com can curate for you. Loch Lomond is just the beginning!

Day 2: Coastal Cruising to Oban - Lochs, Castles, and Seafood Dreams!
Day two, and we were hitting the road towards Oban, but not before a glorious detour through some of Scotland's most breathtaking scenery. Our route took us via Inveraray, a picture-postcard town nestled at the head of Loch Fyne. Inveraray Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll, was a sight to behold – steeped in history and surrounded by stunning gardens. We took a wander through the town, soaking up the atmosphere and grabbing a coffee at a lovely little cafe.
Then came the coastal road… oh my word! This drive is what Scottish road trip dreams are made of. We hugged the shores of Loch Fyne, stopping at charming little villages along the way. The views across the loch were simply spectacular. We even made a pit stop at a local smokehouse – the aroma alone was enough to make your mouth water, and the fresh seafood was out of this world!
Finally, we arrived in Oban, the "Seafood Capital of Scotland." The town has a real buzz about it, with ferries coming and going and the smell of the sea in the air. We settled into our lovely accommodation and then headed straight for a seafood dinner. Let me tell you, the langoustines were the freshest I've ever tasted!
In2Scotland.com Insider Tip: Keep an eye out for the "oyster shack" signs along Loch Fyne – a perfect opportunity for a fresh and delicious snack! In2Scotland.com knows all the hidden gems to make your journey unforgettable.

Day 3: Oban & Glencoe - History, Dramatic Landscapes, and a Wee Dram!
Day three was all about exploring the Oban area and venturing into the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe. We started the day with a visit to McCaig's Tower, Oban's iconic Victorian folly, which offers panoramic views over the town and the surrounding islands. It's a bit of a climb, but trust me, the reward is worth it!
Then, we hopped back in the car and headed towards Glencoe. The scenery along the way is simply awe-inspiring – towering mountains, deep glens, and a sense of wild beauty that’s hard to put into words. As we entered Glencoe, the atmosphere shifted. It's a place steeped in history, both beautiful and poignant. We stopped at viewpoints to take in the majestic scenery and learn about the area's fascinating (and sometimes tragic) past.
To lighten the mood (and warm us up!), we made a stop at a charming little pub in Glencoe for a wee dram of local whisky. There's nothing quite like a good Scotch in the heart of the Highlands!
In2Scotland.com Insider Tip: Take your time driving through Glencoe. Pull over at the designated viewpoints, breathe in the air, and really soak in the atmosphere. In2Scotland.com ensures you have the flexibility to truly experience these iconic locations.

Day 4: Fort William & Glenfinnan - Steam Trains, Stunning Views, and a Touch of Magic!
Day four took us north to Fort William, the "Outdoor Capital of the UK," nestled in the shadow of Ben Nevis. The drive itself was stunning, with lochs and mountains as our constant companions.
Our main mission for the day? The Glenfinnan Viaduct! For all you Harry Potter fans out there, this is the iconic railway bridge featured in the films. We timed our visit perfectly to see the Jacobite steam train (the "Hogwarts Express" in disguise!) chugging its way across the viaduct – it was truly magical! Even if you're not a Potterhead, it's an impressive sight.
Afterwards, we visited the Glenfinnan Monument, which commemorates the Jacobite rising of 1745. The views from the top of the monument down Loch Shiel are simply breathtaking. It’s a place where history and natural beauty collide.
Fort William itself is a bustling town with a great atmosphere. We enjoyed a hearty lunch there before taking a short walk along the shores of Loch Linnhe, gazing up at the mighty Ben Nevis.
In2Scotland.com Insider Tip: Check the Jacobite steam train timetable in advance so you don't miss it crossing the viaduct! In2Scotland.com takes care of all the logistics, ensuring you get those picture-perfect moments.

Day 5: Isle of Skye - Ferry Fun and Fairy Pools' Enchantment!
Day five, and it was time for an island adventure! We made our way to Mallaig, a charming fishing port, where we hopped on the ferry to the Isle of Skye. The ferry journey itself was a treat, with stunning views back towards the mainland and the anticipation of exploring this legendary island building with every nautical mile.
As we arrived in Skye, the landscape immediately captivated me. Dramatic mountain ranges, rugged coastlines, and a sense of untamed beauty – it's like nowhere else on earth. Our first stop was the Fairy Pools, a series of crystal-clear waterfalls and rock pools nestled in the foothills of the Black Cuillin mountains. The water was a bit chilly (some brave souls even went for a dip!), but the scenery was absolutely enchanting.
We then explored some of the island's charming villages, with their whitewashed houses and friendly locals. The air on Skye has a unique quality – fresh, clean, and invigorating.
In2Scotland.com Insider Tip: Wear comfortable shoes for exploring Skye – there's so much to see and you'll want to be ready for a bit of walking! In2Scotland.com provides you with all the essential information to make the most of your time on this magical island.

Day 6: Isle of Skye - Dramatic Drives and Dunvegan Delights!
Day six was dedicated to further exploration of the Isle of Skye's dramatic landscapes. We embarked on a scenic drive around the Trotternish Peninsula, stopping at iconic landmarks like the Old Man of Storr, a distinctive rock pinnacle, and Kilt Rock, with its dramatic basalt cliffs and cascading waterfall. The views were simply jaw-dropping at every turn.
We also visited Lealt Falls, a beautiful waterfall with a fascinating history, and the Quiraing, a landslip with otherworldly rock formations. Skye truly feels like stepping into a different realm.
In the afternoon, we made our way to Dunvegan Castle & Gardens, the ancestral home of the Clan MacLeod. The castle is steeped in history, and the gardens are a tranquil oasis. We even took a boat trip on Loch Dunvegan to see the seal colony – a delightful experience!
In2Scotland.com Insider Tip: Be prepared for changeable weather on Skye – pack layers! But don't let a bit of mist deter you; it often adds to the island's mystical charm. In2Scotland.com ensures you're well-prepared for all conditions.

Day 7: Loch Ness & Inverness - Monster Hunting and Highland Capital Charm!
Day seven saw us bidding farewell to the Isle of Skye (a little tear may have been shed!) and heading east towards the legendary Loch Ness. The drive itself was beautiful, winding through more stunning Highland scenery.
Of course, no trip to Loch Ness is complete without a bit of monster hunting! We took a boat trip on the loch, keeping our eyes peeled for any signs of "Nessie." While the elusive creature remained hidden on our trip, the sheer scale and mystery of the loch were captivating. We also visited Urquhart Castle, a historic ruin on the shores of Loch Ness, which offers fantastic views and a glimpse into the area's past.
In the afternoon, we continued our journey to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. It's a vibrant city with a lovely atmosphere. We explored the city centre, walked along the River Ness, and enjoyed a delicious dinner at a local restaurant.
In2Scotland.com Insider Tip: Even if you don't spot Nessie, the scenery around Loch Ness is worth the trip alone! In2Scotland.com crafts itineraries that blend iconic sights with the natural beauty of the Highlands.

Day 8: Cairngorms & Pitlochry - Mountain Majesty and Victorian Charm!
Our final day took us south through the stunning Cairngorms National Park. This vast landscape is a haven for wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts. The scenery is on a grand scale – majestic mountains, ancient forests, and sparkling lochs. We stopped at viewpoints to take in the breathtaking vistas and enjoyed a short walk amidst the heather-clad hills.
Our final destination was the charming Victorian town of Pitlochry. It's a picture-postcard place with beautiful architecture, lovely shops, and a real sense of old-world charm. We enjoyed a final Scottish lunch here, reminiscing about the incredible journey we'd just experienced.
In2Scotland.com Insider Tip: Keep an eye out for red deer and other wildlife as you travel through the Cairngorms National Park! In2Scotland.com designs routes that showcase the diverse beauty and natural wonders of Scotland.

So there you have it! My incredible 8-day road trip adventure with In2Scotland.com.

Influencer in Scotland

22/4/2025

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting Sweden-based travel influencer Julia Persson, known as "juliasdaysoff” on Instagram, as part of Lufthansa City Center’s Content Creator Initiative.
We curated an unforgettable 5-day journey, showcasing the best of Scotland: Edinburgh and surroundings, Loch Lomond, Glasgow, Glencoe and more.
With an audience of almost 60,000 followers, Julia beautifully captured our destination through her lens, bringing the charm and roughness of Scotland to her global community.

Julia’s Travel Report:
“Do you have Scotland on your bucket list? I must admit, before I was invited by In2Scotland.com I didn’t have it high up on mine. But I’m eternally grateful I had this experience – I have now found a new favorite part of Europe!
As a travel content creator, I’m always in search for unique destinations. The moment I arrived in Scotland, I could feel something different in the air – a mix of mystery and wild beauty.
From the historic charm of Edinburgh’s winding alleyways to the raw landscapes of the highlands, every step felt like walking through a living piece of history. The mountains, the castles perched on cliffs, and the sound of bagpipes – it all felt almost cinematic.
One of the most unforgettable experiences was driving through Glencoe. The valley unfolded around me like a painting, with mist hanging over towering peaks. On the Isle of Skye, the landscapes felt almost otherworldly. Rugged, moody, and photogenic. And not to mention the people I met, the castle suite I stayed in, and the highland cows I met along the way.
I left Scotland with a full heart, a calm I didn’t know I needed, and a camera roll packed with memories I’ll always hold onto. Scotland is a place I will warmly recommend to everyone I know.

If Scotland is on your list – don’t hesitate. Just go! But make sure to book with LCC In2Scotland.com, they will make sure you have a wonderful visit!”
