The Isle of Islay is the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides and is known as ‘The Queen of the Hebrides’. It is the fifth-largest Scottish island and the seventh-largest surrounding Great Britain. Islay actually has eight active whisky distilleries and it is the island’s second largest employer, after agriculture. Known as the centre of “whisky tourism”, Islay hosts the annual Fèis Ìle, which is a “festival of malt and music”.
Islay has also features in an episode of Time Team, and acted as the backdrop for some scenes in the 1954 film The Maggie, and BBC adaption of Para Handy.
